IACREOT is very pleased to announce two George Washington University courses available ONLINE this spring.

These classes are available to IACREOT Members only.
They are the 4th and 5th in the current series of classes toward a Certificate in Public Leadership.

Course #5 - Registration Deadline and Course Dates have changed

The 4-step process prior to participating in the online classes:

1. GWU will create Special Use courses in their Blackboard online learning platform.

2. IACREOT members will sign-up for classes and pay the $100 course fee, in advance.

3. IACREOT will send GWU the names and email addresses of those who have sign-up for the class and GWU will enter them into the Blackboard system.

4. GWU will then send class participants email messages confirming their admittance to the course and giving them instructions on how to proceed.

The schedule for the Spring 2013 online C.P.L. classes is as follows:

COURSE #4 AVAILABLE ONLY: Monday, April 22, 2013-Friday, May 3, 2013.

“Contracting Basics” with Bill Sharp will have 3 hours of teaching content and experiences.  Students can complete the course within the 2 week time frame and will be required to pass a test that will be administered by Bill Sharp via Blackboard.

This course will consist of three modules: fundamentals of government procurement, organizational conflicts of interest and public purchasing, and procurement best practices. The fundamentals of government procurement will provide basic information about the differences in fixed price and cost based procurements. This will cover price only competitions, e.g, invitations for bids (sealed bidding) and competitions with price and other factors considered (competitive procurements). Organizational conflicts of interest cover a wide variety of circumstances including nepotism, self-dealing and other forms of prohibited conduct.  “A conflict of interest is a set of circumstances that creates a risk that professional judgment or actions regarding a primary interest will be unduly influenced by a secondary interest.”  Procurement best practices will cover strategic sourcing, reverse auctions, current trends and forms of public-private partnerships.

COURSE #5 AVAILABLE ONLY: Monday, May 6, 2013-Friday, May 17, 2013

GWU has had to change the two week period the course is available.

The new time frame is to be determined; registration for the course has been extended until May 30.

“Using Social Media in Government” with Byron Henderson will have 3 hours of content and experiences.  Students can complete the course within the 2 week window and will be required to either pass a test, do a demonstration assignment, or both (tbd).
